Disability Sport

Background

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership launched its Sports Inclusion Disability Project in May 2008. The partnership has appointed a Sports Inclusion Disability Officer (SIDO) to oversee the management of the project whose aim is to increase participation by people with a disability in sport and active recreation.

SSRP Sport Disability Programmes

A key outcome of the project involves the provision of sports programming for people with disabilities in a variety of settings. These include the participation of people with disabilties in sport and physical activity through targeted activities such as Boccia, Games For All, Aerobics etc.

Sports Clubs and Inclusion

The project promotes increased sporting and recreational opportunities for people with disabilites in Sligo through the provision of activities for inclusion into mainstream sports clubs.
