SSRP is committed to the development of watersports in County Sligo and to date has been instrumental in establishing Sligo Rowing Club and Sligo Kayak Club while also supporting participation initiatives in the sports of Surfing and Sailing.
Sligo Rowing Club
With the support of SSRP, Irish Rowing Union and Sligo Borough Council the Sligo Rowing Club was established in 2006. Club development support and grant aid assistance was provided by SSRP. The club facilitates Olympic style rowing and provides opportunities for senior and junior oars people to participate in the sport which is facilitated by a team of coaches. The club competes in national events annually and hosts a ‘Head of the River’ event each Spring. The club is located along the Garavogue River at Doorly Park. In 2017 Sligo Rowing Club established a Social Rowing section in their club, this is open to leisure rowers over 18 years of age.
Sligo Kayak Club
With the support of SSRP, Irish Canoe Union and Sligo Borough Council the Sligo Kayak Club was established in 2009. Club development support and grant aid assistance was provided by SSRP. The club facilitates kayaking for adults and youth. Members participate in flat water, river running, freestyle, surf and sea kayaking. The club has an active youth an adult section and runs paddle proficiency courses on a regular basis.The club is located along the Garavogue River at Doorly Park.
