Two of the best weekends of my summer have been spent learning to sail around Sligo Bay with a fantastic group of women while doing the Women on Water sailing course with SYC. What a great way to enjoy the very best of what Sligo has to offer – great outdoor adventure, amazing scenery and the best craic with a great group of lovely women.
We got to experience sailing in all conditions – from windy recoveries to bobbing around on a lovely sunny day and ‘racing’ around the bay in a steady breeze.
I never thought starting out that I would actually be able to helm a boat safely around the bay after two weekends (and one or two accidental swims). But we were guided through the ropes by two very enthusiastic and patient instructors. Even when the weather made things a bit hairy, they made us feel safe on the water and the made the experience a very enjoyable one.
Thank you to all involved for such an enjoyable experience – Una for organising it; our brilliant instructors – Sarah, Helen and Sam; Karl and Mick for keeping us safe; and my new friends – all the ladies who participated. See you for supervised sailing on Sunday’s
