Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership (SSRP) is one of 29 Local Sports Partnerships in Ireland structured and managed at County level to respond to local needs and to support local sport and physical activity. We operate within the context of the National Sports Policy 2018 – 2027 and under the aegis of Sport Ireland.

We are a partnership of local agencies, organisations, clubs and communities which support the sport and physical activity network in County Sligo so that more people can participate in sport and physical activity. These Partners have representation on the Board of SSRP which determines the strategic direction of the Partnership and maintains oversight of its actions.

We have a professional and experienced full-time staff of seven who lead, respond, co-ordinate and facilitate a wide variety of sport and physical activity opportunities in Sligo with the support of and a network of tutors and coaches.

SSRP provides a range of services and supports for sport and physical activity primarily in two categories:

  • Capacity Building: SSRP supports others so that they can develop and deliver sustainable sport and physical activity programmes. For example SSRP supports the training of club or community coaches, assists in new club development and encourages the use of sports facilities and infrastructure.
  • Sport and Physical Activity Opportunities: SSRP identifies and responds to local sport and physical activity programme needs. We co-ordinate with the sporting community and partners in County Sligo by working with sports clubs, community organisations, schools and others to provide these opportunities.

Our aim is to ensure that there is a broad range of sport and physical activity opportunities in County Sligo at every stage in life. We are particularly interested in encouraging and supporting our target groups to take part and sustain their participation in sport and physical activity which include…

Our Guiding Principles:

  • Accountability: We are accountable for our performance and take a planned and managed approach to our work.
  • Equality: We support the right of all members of the community to be involved in sport and physical activity regardless of age, ability, gender, ethnicity and social-economic background.
  • Empowerment: We acknowledge the importance of empowering individuals, clubs, communities and organisations, to shape and deliver sports and physical activities which are relevant to them.
  • Partnership: We achieve our goal of increased participation through working in partnership and building positive relationships with sports clubs, communities, schools and agencies.
  • Quality: We believe enjoyable, quality programmes are critical to increasing lifelong physical activity.
  • Sustainability: We promote and support sports participation opportunities which have the potential to be self sustaining.
