Our Community Sports and Physical Activity programmes aim to increase physical activity levels in rural and urban communities through targeted initiatives for participation in sport and physical activity.

We support communities, voluntary organisations and clubs to implement a range of programmes for key target groups.
We work with a variety of community partners , for example Sports Clubs, Family Resource Centres, Active Age Clubs, ICA groups, Sligo Traveller Support Group, Diversity Sligo, Youth Clubs, After-School settings, Men’s Sheds and Community Centres to ensure that targeted communities in both rural and urban areas.

Outdoor Gyms
A number of Outdoor Gyms have been developed both in the Sligo Town area and rural areas throughout County Sligo
A diverse range of outdoor fitness equipment is available for use by the general public. In response to the outdoor gym developments SSRP supports usage of the equipment through information and targeted Inclusive ‘come and try’ fitness sessions which are facilitated by fitness professionals.

Active Centres
Active centres aim to increase participation and usage at community centres through the provision of enhanced quality sport and recreation activities.
SSRP supports community centre committees to increase usage of their centres through programming.
Operation Transformation
To coincide with the RTE OT programme SSRP supports clubs and community groups to facilitate initiatives to kick start an active New Year in their community. This could include Meet and Train programmes, Couch to 5K, Indoor Rowing etc
Sprocket Rocket
SSRP link with Schools, After School Clubs and Community Groups to deliver the Cycling Ireland Sprocket Rocket programme for children aged 6 to 12 years.
This is a cycling skills programme where children are taught the four FUNdamental cycling skills – Balance, Braking, Cornering and Pedaling – by qualified sprocket rocket coaches. The aim is to increase the competence and confidence of riders. Sprocket Rocket is a flexible programme which can be delivered over a 4-12 week period (length is tailored for each group), with 1 hour long sessions.
