Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of all that’s great about bikes and cycling.
Bike Week is a national event co-ordinated locally by Sligo County Council and Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership with support from many local cycling clubs and community organisations. There are numerous free cycling related events running in Sligo throughout Bike Week 10th to 18th May listed below, you can view a full list national events at bikeweek.ie.

Skills and drills fun with bicycles and balance bikes.
Bikes must be road worthy with working brakes and both adults and children must wear helmets when cycling.

Wednesday 14th May is National Cycle to Work Day for Bike Week. So leave that car at home and take the bike instead.

• Location: All photos must be captured within County Sligo
• Eligibility: Entrants must be 18 years or older. Permission must be obtained from any individuals appearing in the photo to use their image for the competition.
• Judging: A panel of judges will select the winners based on how well the photo captures the spirit of cycling.

Curious about balance bikes? Bring your little ones (ages 2–5) along and discover the perfect first step in learning to cycle!
Balance bikes are small, lightweight bikes without pedals that help kids build confidence, coordination, and balance—all while having loads of fun. Children use their feet to glide, steer, and stop, making it a safe and exciting way to develop early cycling skills.
No bike? No problem! We’ve got balance bikes and helmets available—just let us know when booking.
Parents/guardians must stay for the duration of the session.

Children’s Cycling Skills and Drills - Various Dates
Children’s Skills and Drills
Calling all young cyclists aged 5 to 12 years! Whether your child is just starting out or already zooming around with confidence, our fun, coach-led cycle sessions are tailored for beginners, improvers, and advanced riders alike.
Under the guidance of experienced cycling coaches, children will build skills in:
• Balance
• Pedaling
• Braking
• Cornering
These sessions take place in a safe, enclosed outdoor space—no traffic, just fun and learning!
Bring your own bike if you have one (it’s best to learn on your own wheels!), but don’t worry—bikes and helmets can be provided if needed. Just let us know when registering.
Please check that bikes have working brakes and pumped tyres, and helmets must be worn during the session.

Return to the Bike – Guided Cycle Sessions
Haven’t been on a bike in years? Never learned? Now’s your chance to change that! Join our adult and teen guided cycle sessions—perfect for beginners or those returning to cycling after a long break.
These relaxed, supportive sessions take place on safe cycle lanes in Cleveragh Park, away from traffic and led by friendly, patient instructors who will help you build confidence on the bike at your own pace.
Bring your own bike if you have one (it’s best to learn on your own wheels!), but don’t worry—bikes and helmets can be provided if needed. Just let us know when registering. This is an open fun day for potential new members or those interested in sampling road cycling in groups.
A leisurely cycle on a Sunday morning with experienced cyclists to give you a taste of safe cycling within a club.
It’s a great way of keeping fit as well as getting to know the highways and byways of our beautiful county. We will be welcomed at our half way point at Castle Dargan Hotel to enjoy complimentary tea & scones where cyclists will have a chance to chat with members and learn more about the club which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
There will be two circular return route options to suit all cyclists ,one of approximately 28KM directly through Ballisodare & Ballygawley to Castle Dargan and a slightly more challenging 60/70km route around the Strandhill peninsula and on to Castle Dargan with an option of a return route around the magical Lough Gill.
Club requirements are that cyclists must be over 18, have a roadworthy bicycle and wear a helmet. Looking forward to sharing our experiences of a great club.

As Ernest once said: “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.” We couldn’t agree more!
Join us for a Beginner Mountain Biking session on the stunning Coolaney Mountain Bike Trails and discover the thrill of trails a car could never reach. These 1.5-hour lessons are designed to get you started safely and confidently in this exciting sport.
