HER Outdoors Week 2024
HER Outdoors week aims to celebrate and encourage more females to get out and enjoy the benefits of being in the outdoors while bringing visibility to the opportunities for females to get involved in outdoor physical activity.

This week will be an opportunity for females to escape to the outdoors and try something new. For such a tiny island, there are so many incredible outdoor activities on offer and this should be celebrated to the fullest!

Dragon Boating - Women’s Intro
Women’s Intro to Dragon Boating with Medb’s Dragon Warriors
This will be an introductory paddle for women new to dragon boating and will be supported by club members on the water. Meet the Dragons, experience a paddle on Aughamore Bay.

Hiking
Beginner Hikes
For women who are new to hiking and would like to take on the challenge under the guidance of an experienced guide. You must dress with apocopate footwear and clothing to take part. Please read each hike for details on age limits. More details on each hike at the booking links below.
Carrowkeel Hike
Join Northwest Adventure Tours and hike the megalithic cemetery of Carrowkeel and learn all about our ancient past whilst meeting new friends and trying something new.

Glencar Escarpment Hike
Join Sligo Mountaineering Club for a guided introductory hike for newcomers (over 18) to the hills, at an easy pace and for 2 hours approximately. Hiking boots/ sturdy shoes advised. The walk sets out from the Glencar Waterfall car park and the route has a considerable amount of uphill to begin with along the bog road. After the climb you are rewarded with spectacular views of Sligo Bay and back into the Glencar valley and lake as you traverse the Glencar escarpment. The sights include Glencar lake, Tormore Crags, Swiss Valley and the spectacular Sruth in Aghaidh An Aird waterfall (The Devil’s Chimney). This hike is along an area of outstanding beauty and after a short break at a river junction the hike will return back to the carpark.

Night Hike
Join Northwest Adventure Tours and a fun hike in the near dark. Hike the urban hill of Cairns whilst meeting new friends and trying something new. This night hike is all about providing more opportunities for all females to escape to the outdoors and try something new. Sligo has some really amazing iconic mountains and routes to hike and this should be celebrated to the fullest!

Benbulben Hike – pace aimed at those who never hiked before
Join Northwest Adventure Tours for this beginners hike on Benbulben. If you are an active walker and have hiked before then this event is not for you. This is for women new to hiking. The pace will be slow and relaxed for those new to hiking with lots of stops. First time hikers of Benbulben only. Hike the majestic Benbulben, experience spectacular views. Perfect for those with an adventurous spirit.

Suitable for those completely new to trail running, those aiming to complete the warriors run and more accomplished runners. Learn, share tips, meet and chat with like minded women involved in trail running. Juniors are welcome and must be accompanied by parent/guardian at all times.

Networking event for Women Coaches, Instructors and Volunteers Leaders of Outdoor Sports and Activities in Sligo
Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership invites women who are supporting others to get involved in the outdoors by coaching or leading activities to come together to share their experiences of their sport and exchange ideas on how to increase women participation in these outdoor and adventure style sports and activities.
