Extension of the Pop-Up Pool for Tubbercurry
Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership with Swim Ireland and Sligo County Council announce the extension of the Pop-Up Pool for Tubbercurry.
8th December 2022
Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, Swim Ireland and Sligo County Council are delighted to announce an extension on the highly popular Pop-Up Pool in Tubbercurry.
The Pop-Up Pool arrived in Tubbercurry in September and has been providing swimming opportunities for school children, community groups, people learning to swim and people enjoying swimming. The pool has been so popular and well received by the Tubbercurry and surrounding community that a decision was made to extend use of the pool for the community to March 2023.
As the weather is getting colder this is the ideal time to have a swim in the pool which is heated to a balmy 30 degrees. The pool is 12m x 3.4m and is sheltered from the elements in a hard sided and heated marquee with changing rooms onsite an inclusive ramp and hoist.
Deirdre Lavin, Sports Co-ordinator SSRP commented:
“ Having the opportunity to extend the Pop Up Pool period in Tubbercurry is fantastic news as it will afford the many community people of all ages who are enjoying swimming on their doorstep the chance to continue to do so over the winter months.” She added, “Collaboration with Swim Ireland and Sligo County Council with regard to keeping the pool in Tubbercurry has resulted in a positive outcome and the local community can now look forward to swimming as part of a healthy and active New Year.”
Swim Irelands Head of Participation Ashley Hunter added:
“We are delighted that the pool is enabling people in Tubbercurry to access a swimming pool. The Pop-Up Pool is providing hundreds of opportunities and experiences for swimming on a weekly basis to school children, community groups, older people, aqua fit classes, people learning to swim, swimming to aid health and well-being and public swimming. There have been young and old people in the pool, who would have not gone to a leisure centre due to body consciousness, autism, disability, distance to travel and the cost of swimming, we are catering for everybody”.
The pool will be in Tubbercurry until March 2023 and bookings are now open for schools, groups and individual use for January to March 2023, click Me and the Water | Swim Ireland for more details and to book your swim.
