Children, Youth & Family Activities

Sligo Sport and Recreation partnership are delighted to share tips and online resources with fun fitness ideas to keep for yours kids active at home. It is so important for all children and youth to play and be active, and maintain their 60 mins of physical activity per day, so check out a range of family friendly activities to do at home.

Government Health Campaigns

The government have launched a new campaign  ‘In This Together’ which aims to help everyone in Ireland to Stay Connected, Stay Active, and look after their Mental Wellbeing. The campaign encourages everyone to pick a new activity which could help them to feel a little healthier or a little better as we deal with Covid-19.  On their page you will find lots of advice and tips on how you can look after your mental wellbeing, stay active and stay connected. ‘Let’s Play Ireland’

Let’s Play Sligo – 21 Day Physical Activity Challenge

Following on from Active Home week here at Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership we have launched  ‘Lets Play Sligo’. This 21 day challenge for children can be found in the Sligo Weekender & Sligo Champion and you can get a free Let’s Play Sligo Booklet emailed to you by registering HERE

Playground Games

The Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) has developed a number of resources to support play in a playground or school setting.

  • Without Equipment using Beans, Laughing, Tag for example
  • Traditional Games for e.g Duck Duck Goose, Simon Says etc

Active Playgrounds

Active playground was developed by get Ireland Active to increase play and physical activity during school break times. Time to get busy with chalk markings on your driveway or patio, as most of the games can be developed at home. Click here

Parkrun

Parkrun also have a range of videos called School of parkrun, setting daily parkrun themed tasks covering 5 subjects; English, Maths, Science, Geography, and Art. Each morning a new challenge for the day is set on their YouTube channel. You can then send your work on their social media using the hashtag #schoolofparkrun. Virtual Run around Ireland

The Active schools Run around Ireland can be adapted to your home. Instead of running a lap of your school, run around your house a number of times and track your progress. Get all the family outside and see who will be the first to run around the island of Ireland.

Healthy Kidz

Have launched a Global Challenge to support parents with a programme of activities and resources. They call on families to increase their levels of activity through physical and fun challenges with an opportunity of winning weekly prizes.
